Description:

Shashant Shah's 'Dasvidaniya' is a poignant tale about living life to the fullest - more so with death staring you in the face! The story revolves around a simpleton, Amar Kaul (Vinay Pathak) who lives quite a routine life, with his eccentric mother in a small suburban apartment, and works for a bully of a boss. His visit to a doctor for stomach ache results in his finding out that he is dying of cancer, and has only three months to live. When the reality of death dawns on him, Amar decides to make a list of everything he would really like to do -the list that would make his life worthy, before it actually ends. As the countdown begins, Amar Kaul tries to in fulfil the final tasks to do on his wish list, and in the course of accomplishing them, realizes that he has been dead all along until now. In fact, Amar is symbolic of all those people who want to do a lot of things, but keep putting them on hold. Vinay Pathak deserves kudos for delivering a measured performance as the cheerily upbeat protagonist with an 'expiry date'. He is an exemplification of extraordinary performer breathing life on his persona. Even the rest of the star-cast - comprising Neha Dupia, Saurabh Shukla, Rajat Kapoor, Sarita Joshi, Gaurav Gera and Ranvir Shorey do justice to the roles they play. In fact, the film keeps you engaged not so much on the strength of its plot, as it does for the interesting characters that inhabit it. Shashant has worked his magic wonderfully well - making the audiences smile at times, soaking their eyes with tears and, most importantly, making them reflect with characters.
